Selfportrait, 2020
Kirsten Swensen (1992) is a digital media artist whose work delves into themes such as existentialism and transience combined with code, video and game mechanics. Her work often begins with a question or feeling, transforming into dynamic video art, immersive installations, and detailed generative compositions. Swensen’s creative process is deeply influenced by the fluidity of consciousness.
Utilizing color theory, code, video, and generative art, she creates immersive digital experiences that invite viewers to contemplate the nature of existence in the digital age.
Her art reflects a deep interest in the intersection of human consciousness and technology, exploring what it means to be human in the era of artificial intelligence and challenging us to consider how our digital creations mirror the complexities of the natural world. Meditation and energy, both as a practice and a theme, plays a significant role in her work, offering moments of stillness and reflection amidst the constant flow of digital information.
Her work has been performed and exhibited in institutions worldwide including Van Abbe Museum, Amsterdam; MMMAD Festival, Madrid; Sedition Art; Blinc Festival, Adelaide; Glow, Eindhoven; Dutch Design Week, Eindhoven; STRP Festival, Eindhoven; DEMO Festival, Amsterdam; and more.
